The municipal Clerk is responsible for the keeping and preservation of official records of the municipality as the patent letters, by-laws, minutes, account books, etc. As such, he deals with the management of archives and records management.

He records, without note or comment, all resolutions, decisions and other proceedings of the council. If required by any member present at a vote, he records the name and vote of every member voting on any matter or question. He keeps the originals or copies of all by-laws and of all minutes of the proceedings of the council. He performs the other duties required under the Municipal Act or under any other Act. He performs such other duties as are assigned by the municipality.

He is responsible for conducting the consultation procedures to persons qualified to vote in all cases where the law provides it. The clerk is ex officio president of elections whenever an office at the municipal council becomes vacant and an advisor to the period for general elections.
