The Casselman Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was constructed in 1976 and the original process consisted of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. Treated water was stored in an underground reservoir (clearwell), at the plant and in the existing elevated storage tank that is part of the distribution system.
In November of 2000, an Engineers’ Report documented historical treatment problems and identified several required WTP upgrades.
In 2002, two new package water treatment plants (Actiflo systems) were installed within the existing building envelope. Various other systems were upgrade, such as pumps, SCADA, instrumentation, chemical feed systems, standby power, etc.
Additional upgrades were done in 2003, including a potassium permanganate feed system, a sodium hydroxide feed system, ultraviolet disinfection units, and an extra underground reservoir.
