Join our teams of men and women who are dedicated to protecting their families, neighbours and fellow residents in the Municipality of Casselman!

We respond to a variety of calls, including but not limited to house fires, vehicle accidents/fires, carbon monoxide emergencies, medical emergencies and more.

PROCESS

Attend the Information Session

Interested individuals, along with their spouse, are invited to an information session at the DeGuire community Hall on Wednesday October 29th, 2025 at 7 p.m.

*This session is not required but recommended.

Application Submission

Applications must be submitted before Friday, November 7 at 8 a.m. to be considered for this recruitment period.

Written Test

Applicants who meet initial requirements will be invited to take a written test to assess knowledge and problem-solving skills.

CPAT Physical Ability Test

Candidates who pass the written test will move on to the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), designed to evaluate your fitness and readiness for the demands of firefighting.

Interview

Successful CPAT candidates will be invited for an interview, allowing us to learn more about you and your motivation to join the team.

Training and Certifications

No experience? That’s fine! We will train you to prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career!

Retained applicants will move on to the training phase, where they’ll gain the skills and certifications needed to serve their community: 

  • First Responder (40 hours) - February
  • NFPA 1101 Level 1 Firefighter Course (110 hours) - April/May

Terms and Conditions of Employment

When submitting an application for consideration, applicants are asked to acknowledge and agree that, if hired, they will comply with the following terms and conditions: 

  • Consent to undergo a medical examination.
  • Provide reliable personal transportation.
  • Participate in job-related physical fitness evaluations.
  • Complete mandatory fire training during the probationary period.
  • All Applicants must be 18 years or older at time of application.
  • All applicants must have a valid G Ontario Driver’s licence at time of application.
  • All applicants must live or work in an area served by the station.
  • A vulnerable sector criminal record check must be provided prior to hiring.
  • A driving abstract must be submitted prior to hiring.

Important: For safety reasons, beards or long facial hair are not permitted.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Leisure Services, the Operator 2 ensures the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of municipal recreational facilities, including ice surfaces, parks, and mechanical systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and maintain ice surfaces (Zamboni)
  • Maintain mechanical and refrigeration systems
  • Clean and maintain equipment and indoor/outdoor spaces
  • Perform minor repairs (carpentry, plumbing, painting)
  • Set up venues for community events
  • Ensure safety, enforce regulations, and assist the public
  • Maintain parks, sports fields, and splash pads

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma
  • Experience in building and ice surface maintenance
  • Knowledge of building mechanics
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • People skills, autonomy, and initiative
  • Zamboni training (asset)

WORK CONDITIONS

Casual/part-time position, variable schedule based on operational needs. Stimulating environment focused on community service.

You will be required to provide an updated criminal record and driving record check.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Good proficiency in understanding both French and English.

COMPENSATION

Hourly wage: Between $24,94 and $29,48.*

*Compensation is based on the salary scale in effect for 2025.
