What is a commissioner of oaths?

A commissioner for oaths is an authorized person with the legal authority to administer oaths and affirmations when permitted or required by law. The Commissioner of Oaths plays a crucial role in ensuring the validity and integrity of information in sworn documents. He exercises his functions under the Commissioners for Affidavits Act.

What type of documents can be sworn to the Municipality of Casselman?

  • Documents generated by the Municipality such as an application from the town planning department. 
  • Name change. 
  • Transfer of vehicle ownership within the same family.
  • Statutory declaration of loss of identification.
  • Proof of residence. 
  • Modification of the birth, marriage or death certificate. 
  • Domestic and foreign pension documents also known as proof of life. 
  • Canadian citizenship form.

Documents that cannot be sworn to the Municipality of Casselman

  • Wills, mandates in case of incapacity and inheritance settlement documents. 
  • Power of attorney.
  • Child custody documents.
  • Documents related to judicial, legal or civil matters. 
  • Documents related to dates.

What you need to bring

  • The document is to be signed (unsigned). 
  •  Two pieces of identification including a government-issued document with a photo, for example, a driver's license or passport. 
  • Cash, check or debit card for payment of $15 per signature.
