Public Notice -Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

Water Treatment Plant Expansion Project

In 2024, the Municipality of Casselman completed the Casselman Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Master Plan. The study provides the supporting information on the need to expand the drinking water treatment ability of the Casselman Drinking Water System in order to meet projected growth in the Village.

The Master Plan recommended exploring the supply of drinking water from a neighboring water system.  This approach has been found to be expensive and would take an extended period to implement.

The Master Plan did explore the ability of the South Nation River to provide more capacity to the Casselman Water Treatment Plant (WTP), through the Surface and Groundwater Supply Feasibility Study.

The Town would like to explore the ability to expand the Casselman Water Treatment Plant to meet the growing needs of our community.

The project is being planned following the Schedule C process in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment.  For further information on the project please contact:

Public, Indigenous Community and stakeholder input and comment are invited for incorporation into the planning and design of the project and will be received until August 17, 2025. Once alternative solutions have been consolidated, a Public Information Session will be held to provide this information to the public for comment.

Subject to the identification of a preferred plan to expand the capacity of the water treatment plant, and the receipt of necessary approvals, the Town of Casselman intends to proceed with this project in the next five years.
