Chlorine Odour in Potable Water Caused by Snowmelt

The noticeable chlorine odour is related to the recent snowmelt over the weekend, which affected the raw water quality entering the water treatment plant. In response, operational adjustments were made at the plant. As a result of these adjustments, some residents may notice a stronger chlorine smell or taste in their tap water. This is not a health concern and the disinfection process is working as intended to maintain safe drinking water. The chlorine residuals in the system continue to meet the regulatory requirements. Allowing water to sit in an open container in the refrigerator can help reduce the chlorine smell.
