Casselman Launches New BCITI Module to Better Manage Water Consumption

Casselman, Ontario — May 27, 2026

BCITI technology is reaching a new milestone with the launch of the ATNA Smart Meters module in the Municipality of Casselman. This new application is designed to help residents better understand, anticipate, and reduce their water consumption.

Water: A Key Issue for Municipalities

At a time when resource management is becoming increasingly critical, water has emerged as a strategic issue for municipalities. In Canada, average residential water consumption is among the highest in the world, and a significant portion of this water is lost due to leaks or inefficient usage.

In response to these challenges, municipalities must not only modernize their infrastructure, but also better inform and support residents in their daily habits.

Meter Interface Units (MXUs) have been installed in all households over the past few months. Bciti+ now connects meter data to its application, transforming it into simple, actionable information for residents:

  • Rapid detection of potential leaks
  • Identification of abnormal consumption patterns
  • Personalized alerts (thresholds, budgets, anomalies)
  • Practical recommendations to reduce water usage

For example, a resident may receive a clear notification such as: “You could save up to 150 litres per day,” along with simple actions to help achieve those savings.

A Practical Approach to Artificial Intelligence

The module offers an intuitive interface integrated into the Bciti+ app, allowing residents to:

  • View their daily and monthly water consumption
  • Track usage trends
  • Receive real-time alerts
  • Access practical recommendations tailored to their situation

The goal is simple: turn data into action without unnecessary complexity. This solution helps:

  • Reduce water waste
  • Lower costs for residents
  • Ease pressure on municipal infrastructure
  • Encourage more responsible behaviours

Quotes

“This project directly aligns with our commitment to providing modern and useful services to our residents. Bciti+ allows us to transform data into concrete actions that benefit the entire community.”

Geneviève Lajoie, Municipality of Casselman

“We are continuing the deployment of ATNA with one simple approach: using artificial intelligence where it is truly useful. Helping a resident detect a leak or reduce water consumption is where AI really makes a difference.”

Vivianne Gravel, CEO of Bciti+ / ATNA

As with the library card module launched earlier this year, residents simply need to download the Bciti app, register for the citizen card, and select the Smart Meters application.
